Food Review – Great Dane Pub, Wausau, WI

Hi There,

Welcome to another edition of my food blog.  Today I am reviewing “The Great Dane” in Wausau, WI.  I have not had the greatest experiences here, but the last two have been outstanding.  The last time, prior to last evening, was in July 2017 where I visited this restaurant for a 15 year high school reunion.  I ordered their cheese curds, which were outstanding.  Last night, I officially put “The Great Dane” back on the map of great restaurants in Wausau.

On the menu was french onion soup, which featured pretzel croutons.  Then I ordered a their grilled cheese sandwich, which featured ham and an awesome pimento beer cheese drizzled on the inside.  Then there was the classic poutine, which was very traditional, but their fries, gravy and cheese curds were very fresh and superb.  Then there had to be cocktails involved.  A double crown royal on the rocks and a landmark lite beer were involved.  Great Dane features their own craft beers on tap, and a lite beer was striking my mood last night.

I left the place with a bright smile on my face, and I am definitely visiting this place again soon.  Thank you for one of the greatest food experiences I have had in a long time.  10/10

Food Review – Cinco de Mayo Weekend 2018

Greetings and Salutations,

This blog is all about my dining experiences, from the previous weekend.

So what I did was, I threw my diet and exercise completely out the window, and ate like a champion.  I had a little bit of everything, so it is going to be a little difficult to crave anything these next few days.

So I am going to describe what is going on in each picture, and I will critique each picture and its food.

So what you see in the first picture is from Domino’s.  I stretched this out into three meals.  There’s a large buffalo chicken pizza, a medium pizza with double cheese, salami and Italian sausage.  Then as a side item, we have a 16 piece of parmesan bread bites.  The food tasted the absolute best when fresh, but warmed up, not that much.  It is highly recommended to eat Domino’s as much as you can, the day you get it delivered/carried out.  6.5/10

The second picture is a peanut butter cup shake I got from a gas station chain, very popular in the Midwest, called Kwik Trip.  Good shake, but the best shake I’ve ever had, triumphs this easily.  6/10

The third picture are from an authentic Mexican restaurant called La Taqueria, and it just opened on Wausau’s West Side.  So the item to get is the street taco.  I’ve tried their burrito and quesadilla, and I was not as impressed as the street taco.  So I ordered two street tacos, chicken and chorizo, and I washed it down with a strawberry margarita on the rocks.  Everything went down smooth, and the flavor was an unforgettable experience.  9/10

The fourth picture is a continuation of the Cinco de Mayo celebration, and I wanted to keep my buzz going.

The fifth and sixth pictures are from Culver’s, mostly out of the midwest, famous for their butter burgers, custard and reputation of always preparing their food fresh on the spot.  I tried their pretzel haus pub burger, and cheese curds were recommended to pair with the pub burger, and I washed it down with a diet Culver’s homemade root beer.  I also took advantage of their custard, with a one-scoop vanilla dish.  The burger reminded me of something I would get in a German restaurant.  It had that tangy mustard mixed with the cheeses, patty and pretzel buns.  It definitely, but I prefer their colby jack pub burger version – it’s more safe and more me.  As usual, a fresh dining experience at Culver’s.  7.5/10

The last and seventh picture is just a pile of sharp cheddar and mozzarella cheese, with Hormel pepperoni, and they are microwaved on top of a 1.5 oz serving of nacho cheese Doritos.  I did not feel like buying another meal Sunday night, so I did this.  Lazy, kind of boring, but a great way to end the see-food weekend diet.  7/10

Stay tuned for another dining experience from me.  Thank you for reading.

Food Review, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese With Wenzel’s Garlic Bolonga

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to another edition of my food blog.  I really have not eaten anything extraordinary in a while, but it is time to give out another food review.  Let’s go!

Here I will be reviewing Kraft Original Cheddar Macaroni and Cheese with Wenzel’s Garlic Ring Bologna.  This meal has had my heart for over 20 years.  It is a meal that my Mother and I take part in once every 3-4 months.  We need to make sure this stays a tradition and a treat at the same time.  To emphasize, it has to be the original mac and cheese with garlic bologna; otherwise, the tradition is not the same!

Kraft is by far not the best macaroni and cheese I have ever had, but the tradition of this dish far exceeds any taste expectations.  I used to eat a lot of bologna as a kid, but now as an adult, I only take part in bologna with Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.

Atmosphere wise, I’m eating this in my cozy home in my lounging clothes; it cannot be beat.  Attitude wise, nothing out of the ordinary, which is always good.  Taste wise, to some, it is a filler, but to me, this is one of my favorite traditions to take part of.  Delicious and yummy!

Food blogs and food reviews solely do not have to be judged on taste.  There has to be some personal feelings too, which I try to incorporate atmosphere, attitude and taste in my food blogs.   So if you have a similar situation like this, which tradition overpowers taste, good for you.  We are together on this, my friends.  Until next time, good bye.  9/10

Taco Bell Food Review – 11/22/2017

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

So this food review is a special one.  It is the 10th year in a row, that I have eaten Taco Bell for Thanksgiving Eve.  The tradition stays strong.  So I am going to be a little soft on my food critique.  Here we go guys.

The picture shows food for three.  So my Mom and my older brother also participated in this 10 year tradition, and they have been with me since year 1 in 2008.  This year I went for the core items, so I did not try anything new.  My food is to the right of the paper bag.  I went all out as normal – nacho cheese doritos locos taco, cool ranch doritos locos taco, cheesy fiesta potatoes, nachos bellgrande and a chicken burrito.  I consumed more calories in this meal than one should in a day, but it’s tradition, and I do not care he he.

The food met standards and then some.  I have not had Taco Bell in a couple of months, so it felt good to have it again.  Mexican food gets cold fast, especially in cold climates, so putting it in the microwave definitely increases the quality.  Coming off a stressful three days of pre holiday work, the attitude was all the way there.  Atmosphere wise – in a warm house, enjoying T-Bell with great family.  Very nice!!  8/10

Food Review – Homemade Jambalaya

Alright, alright, alright:

We have ourselves a homemade recipe of Jambalaya to blog about. Every Jambalaya dish is a little different so here are the ingredients to this particular dish:

Shrimp

Shredded Chicken

Andouille Sausage

White Rice

Cajun seasoning

Louisiana hot sauce

Garlic

Green Peppers

Green Onions

Diced Tomatoes

Tomato Sauce

A great dish of Jambalaya has to blend perfectly. If it’s too spicy, then you will scare most eaters away. If it isn’t spicy enough, you will scare eaters away too. No single ingredient should dominate a Jambalaya dish. In this dish, that I tried, no ingredient stands out. They all mesh to perfection. I personally can handle spicy foods, but I keep a very open mind for blogging purposes. The non spicy eater would definitely love this recipe, as well as the spicy eater; perfect amount of spice!

So, the ingredients go very well together. You don’t need any type of bread to go with it. The dish is very fine on it’s own. 8.5/10

Food Review – Dog Haus 9-29-2017

Hello Everyone,
Welcome to another edition of my food blog.  This will mark the 2nd edition of my on location experience.  So let’s go!
On Friday I visited “Dog Haus” in North Hollywood, CA.  This restaurant is known for specialty hot dogs, specialty burgers and sides.  They are not just another hot dog place, which is very cool.  I love a little mystery when I am trying a place for the first time.
I am more old school when it comes to finding out what I want to order.  I am not one to look up a menu online ahead of time.  I like that “struggling” feeling on trying to decide what I want to get.  I ended up choosing the “Cowboy” hot dog and an order of the chili cheese tater tots.
Ladies and gentleman, this is not your ordinary hot dog and tater tots, that you cook up at your house.  I am talking about gourmet, high restaurant quality food.  A great sign of a great dish is; how quickly do I eat the food?  For those who know me best, the quicker I eat, the more I enjoy it.  Well folks, I devoured this meal like it was my last meal I would ever had.  The great thing about a hot dog is, in one bite, you get to taste all the ingredients; which in this case (other than the hot dog), nacho cheese sauce, bacon, diced up onion straws and barbecue sauce all on a King’s Hawaiian bun.  One bad ingredient can ruin a hot dog, which is definitely not the case here.
That is my intake on the “Cowboy” hot dog.  Now the chili cheese tater tots are next.  What can you say, they were to die for!  Crispy, golden to perfection, tater tots, homeade chili, green onions and nacho cheese sauce all mixed into a savory delicious bite.
Overall, well done, Dog Haus, well done.  10/10

Food Review – Mel’s Drive-In Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA

Alright guys,

Here we go! This is my 1st blog during my visit in Southern California. I decided to blog on my latest food adventure. I went to Mel’s Drive-In in West Hollywood, CA this afternoon. As seen in the beginning of HBO’s “Entourage”, I never thought I would ever eat here.

I have a friend, who I met in Wausau, and now lives in Los Angeles, made the suggestion of going to Mel’s. I am very glad she did. I knocked off another iconic Los Angeles establishment. The best part, is the food was very delicious!

Atmosphere – It was all there; hot and humid Southern California weather, eating outside basking in the sun. As a Wisconsin resident, I was a little kid who got the candy in the candy store. Plus I am not working, and neither was my friend.

Attitude – I was very excited to eat here. I was ready to go! On the other hand, are the employees ready to give me a great customer service experience? They sure were! They were on their game, checking in on us frequently. I was even asked if I wanted a refill of Diet Coke to go. I have never witnessed this before, and I wish other restaurants followed this.

Food – I ordered a short-rib grilled cheese sandwich with onion rings. The rib meat decides the fate of the sandwich. I do not like any type of meat that I have to chew extensively in order to swallow it (ask my immediate family anytime). This is definitely not the case here; it was made and cooked to perfection! It melted right in my mouth, and I felt I could have eaten the sandwich in 5 bites! The onion rings were a thicker breading version, and when you have an onion ring like this:

A: There could be too much breading

B: The actual onion can be undercooked

Both A & B passed with flying colors. Well done!

So, Mel’s passed all three of my phases of a solid food review. It is very difficult to achieve perfection. Trust me, I am a perfectionist. This is as close to a perfect comfortable experience as you can get.
